आई, मी ह्या जगाच्या अंधारात,
पाणी समझून आग पिते
आई, मी ह्या जगाच्या अंधारात,
जेवण समझून माती खाते

का आई माझे हे विचार संपत नाही ?
का आई माझ्या ह्या ह्रिदया ला कळत नाही ?

हेच आहे का माझ्या नशिबाचे लेखन?
का हे दाता मला स्वर्गाची चव देत नाही,

नाही का मी फक्त तुमचीच ?

Translation:
Mother, in the darkness of this world,
I drink fire, mistaking it for water.
Mother, in the shadows of this life,
I eat dust, thinking it is food.

Why do these thoughts never end, Mother?
Why does my heart fail to understand?

Is this the script of my fate,
Or will the giver not grant me even a taste of heaven?

Am I not yours alone?
